A Karate Snow Day

As the nation is being hit with record snow falls, our dojo was closed due to the city being under a snow emergency. So, what do you do when the dojo is closed or you can't make it to class?
There are several things you can do, if you can't actually practice in the dojo. One thing you can do, if you're the bold and adventurous type, you can train in the snow. Having a substantial amount of snow on the ground will help ensure that your feet don't drag and that you lift your legs for kicks. And, the control needed to breath will be an exercise in itself.
But, if you're not as ambitious - If space is limited, you can spend time practicing your kicks, punches and blocks in place. If you do have some space, you can practice katas and some techniques.
Or, you can jog in place, do push-ups, sit-ups and stretches. And, then there's always reading. If you've been in class for a while, you may have been introduced to the book, "Lessons in Mindfulness." And, there's always the Internet. Youtube is always a great resource and there's several other websites with great information.
The point is; just because the dojo is closed or you're not able to make it to class, you can still practice and increase your knowledge.
Remember, karate-do is a lifestyle. It's not just something that you do, it's something that you are.
